Maui Trash the Dress
Back in October I had the opportunity to go to Maui for the very first time thanks to Liz and Adam for hiring me on to photograph their trash the dress session. So sad, I have lived on Oahu for twenty years now and have been to all of the outer islands except for Maui. When I first flew into Maui I went to pick up my rental car and had a full day adventure trying to find the perfect spot in a remote location with gentle calm water, that looked like tropical paradise. When scouting for a location for a trash the dress session you have to have in mind the tide, swells, the sun, and your backdrop while photographing from water to shore.
After hours of driving around and pulling into every public beach parking lot, I finally hit the end of the road past Big Beach near the lava fields in Wailea. Along the way to the lava fields I drove through a quaint little neighborhood right on the coast and it caught my eye. I knew that was the spot.
So the next day was the trash the dress shoot, met the couple and about thirty minutes into the photo session some state park ranger was telling us to get out of the water and pointed to a sign that was hiding behind a bush that was overgrown. The sign said private property and specifically said no cameras. So strange! Luckily I had another location in mind right down the road and it worked out just perfectly.
